Malatinszky Winery

“ Without beauty, life is meaningless. As a human being I would like to express the inner content, that is only mine. I feel blessed, that I can do it on my way” – Csaba Malatinszky, Owner of Malatinszky Winery, Villány
Since 2009 the process of the vineyard management is organic. We do not use chemicals in the viticulture and the winery as well, our wines are certified BIO.
Csaba Malatinszky, Owner of Malatinszky Winery
Csaba Malatinszky, the Owner of Malatinszky Winery is internationally well known as Monsieur Cabernet Franc, it was Steven Spurrier who gave that nickname to him; and as if that weren’t enough, it is said by famous people like Caroline Gilby (she is a columnist at Decanter and Harpers) that” Csaba Malatinszky’s veins must run with Cabernet Franc”, she was probably not far off since he calls the Cabernet Franc “the wine of harmony. “His Noblesse cabernet franc 2008 awarded the gold medal at Decanter in London.
Mr. Malatinszky re-established his estate in 1997 as a descendent of a Nobel family, follows the line of his traditions which goes back more than eight centuries.
The founder himself, with a very wide range of international pre-studies, manages the farming and vinification of the estate. Transplanting traditions into the present expresses his outlook on life and commitment to working and living in harmony with Nature.
Organic viticulture at Malatinszky Winery
The estate was converted to entirely organic in 2009 and this is the spirit which guides Mr. Malatinszky along his way.
I always had a wine in my head,” he says, “and it all starts with
the soil and the vines. I was looking for an extraordinary place to
grow and make Cabernet Franc. Máriagyűd, Kövesföld slopes
(Hungary) is it, because of its micro climate and chunky, clayey
soil. He was invited to study tours to Medoc (Lynch Bages). He collaborated with Bordeaux University in experimenting to accomplish his goal of creating the terroir for his dreamt wine.
Mr. Malatinszky consciously optimised the dimensions of his property to 30 hectares to ensure authenticity and sustainability, and thus can focus on creating an exceptional wine that expresses his personality and represents his quest for beauty in his craft.
He created the only place in the world where Cabernet Franc is the top grape. “My goal is to produce wine with complexity that expresses terroir.” He says.
The geographic location of his three, approximately 10-hectare vineyard blocks from east to west are Kisharsány, Siklós and Máriagyűd.
As the reflection of the standard of Mr. Csaba Malatinszky’s philosophy, his wines hold a special allure for a specific range of audience with the desire and needs for refinement. His wines are available from Honk Kong to New York. He supplies wines to the Royal Family of Great Britain as well.
