It’s a tradition in Hungary that February is a month when the flagship grape variety of Tokaj is celebrated. International Furmint Day is held on the 1st of February.
Furmint is a traditional Hungarian variety, it’s known mainly as the base of the famous sweet, Tokaji aszú, but it’s widespread in dry version too.
Furmint gains even more popularity among Master of Wines, who also praise the variety. Jancis Robinson finds it outstanding, precise, characteristic and well-structured with nice acidity. According to Elizabeth Gabay, Furmint belongs to the international classics with an excellent potential to transmit the terroir. It has a fruity character with apple, lime, lemon, ginger, and honey hints. Caroline Gilby is also impressed by its potential to express the terroir, minerality, complexity, and full of zest.
There’s still time to buy your Furmint bottle, or check out our Selections to get one (or more) and join the worldwide cheering!
