Style

Well-structured red wines, with medium to a fuller body, medium to high tannin and medium acidity, the alcohol is generally on a higher level, the flavor intensity is medium to intense. Elegant, complex wines, the flavors are a mixture of ripe red & black berry fruits, quite spicy style with peppery notes, combine with earthy, bit herbaceous character and oaky notes with significant sweet spice character. The aging potential depend on the classification level, is between 3-10 years.

Szekszárdi Bikavér Classification

Classicus

• Bull’s Blood from Szekszárd must consist of a mixture of at least four grape varieties.
• Kékfrankos must be the dominant grape variety in the blend – its proportion must be 45%, while Kadarka must total 5%. International varieties, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are permitted, however their proportion should not exceed 40% in total. The following grape varieties are also permitted, but their proportion should not exceed 10% in in total: Alibernet, Bíborkadarka, Blauburger, Malbec, Menoire, Mészikadar, Pinot noir, Portugieser, Sagrantino, Tannat, Turán, Virághegyi, Zweigelt. 
• Necessary ageing requirement, minimum 12 months in oak.

Premium Bikavér

• Bull’s Blood from Szekszárd must consist of a mixture of at least four grape varieties.
• Kékfrankos must be the dominant grape variety in the blend – its proportion must be 45%, while Kadarka must total 5%. International varieties, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are permitted, however their proportion should not exceed 40% in total. The following grape varieties are also permitted, but their proportion should not exceed 10% in in total: Alibernet, Bíborkadarka, Blauburger, Malbec, Menoire, Mészikadar, Pinot noir, Portugieser, Sagrantino, Tannat, Turán, Virághegyi, Zweigelt.  Additionally, Syrah is also permitted in the premium category.
• Necessary ageing requirement, minimum 12 months in oak.
• The Prémium Bikavér cannot be launched earlier than on 31st December of the second year following the harvest.
