White grapes are 5046 ha, represents 76% of the total vineyard area.
The most important white grape varieties are:: Rizlingszilváni (Silvaner), Szürkebarát (Pinot Grogio), Ottonel Muskotályos, Irsai Olivér, Olaszrizling, Chasselas…;
Red grapes are around 1500 ha, represents 24% of the total vineyard area: Kékfrankos, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zweigelt, Cabernet franc, Pinot Noir…;
Mátra wine styles:
White wines: Most of the white wines are easy to drink, lighter structured wines, with vivid acidity, light to medium body, medium alcohol, and good flavor intensity. The general flavors are juicy green and white apple, lemon and lime, white flower, almond and some steely minerality. The fuller bodied wines are mostly produced from Olaszrizling, Szürkebarát and Hárslevelű and use a shorter time of oak ageing.
Red wines: the best red wines are produced mostly from Kékfrankos, but some very high quality wines are also made from Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc.
