• Location and size: Badacsony wine region is located in the center of Transdanubia, on the North shore of the Lake Balaton (the biggest, sweet water lake of Central-eastern Europe) encompassing the volcanic cones of the Tapolca Basin. 1404 ha
• Climate: Continental climate with Sub-Mediterranean influence, temperate by the Lake Balaton.  
• Sunshine hours: 1900-2000 (h/year)
• Precipitation: 640 (mm/year)
• Annual temperature: 11.2°C
• Elevations: above sea level: 100–350 m, hilly, often terraced slopes
• Soil: Volcanic bedrock as basalt, basalt tuff and basalt debris, combine with loess, marl, clay and sandy soil.

Badacsony wine region’s grape varieties (2019)

White grapes are 1165 ha, represents 83% of the total vineyard area. The most important white grape varieties are:

• Olaszrizling
• Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris)
• Rajnai Rizling (Riesling)
• Kéknyelű
• Rizlingszilváni (Silvaner)
• Ottonel Muskotályos

Red grapes are around 210 ha, represents only 17% of the total vineyard area.

Badacsony wine style:

Most of the quality white wines are full-bodied, well-structured, age worthy wines with higher level natural acidity and alcohol. The flavors are ripe stone fruits, lemon, lime and grapefruits, white flowers, almond and significant sign of the mineral characters, as wet stone, salty, oily texture and some flintiness. The larger use of oak ageing is a common practice. The quality white wines have quite a good ageing potential, 2-5 years.
